djnyc top 10 albums 2010

2010 was an amazing year for music, so much to choose from and hard to narrow it down to 10 albums. There were some great electro lounge albums including Jose Padilla’s compilation, the Urbano Beach and Lounge Compilation compiled by Ben Snowtown, as well as Bob Dylan’s Witmark Demos 1962-1964, The National’s High Violet and a bunch of other albums. Here is djnyc’s top 10 albums in 2010 list:

Aloe Blacc – Good Things (Stones Throw Records, soul)
Afrocubism – Afrocubism (Nonesuch Records, cuban, mali)
Ebo Taylor – Ebo Taylor (Strut Records, afrobeat)
Good God – Born Again Funk (Numero Group Records, gospel, funk, soul)
James – The Morning After the Night Before (Mercury Records, Britop, alternative)
Nas & Damian Marley – Distant Relatives (Universal Records, hip hop, dancehall)
Ryuichi Sakamoto Playing the Piano (KAB Records, classical)
Salsa Explosion!: The New York Salsa Revolution, 1969-1979 (Fania Records, salsa)
Seu Jorge and Almaz – Seu Jorge & Almaz (Now Again Records, brazilian)
Wild Nothing – Gemini (Captured Tracks, indie, shoegazer)

Such a great, diverse list. The New York Salsa Revolution is an amazing album as well as the Nas & Damian Marley album, remnds me a little of Thievery Corporation’s Richest Man in Babylon.
