What's on the Ipod this morning - Louie's Grooves

Riding the train today I'm listening to Louie's Grooves: Latin Jazz, Soul and Boogaloo.  My favorite track on the album is Jimmy Sabater's "Yroco", if you listen to the sample until about 2/3 through it kicks in, very nice.  Other standout tracks are Charlie Palmieri's "Fat Papa's Descarga" and Kako's New York After Hour Orchestra's "Vitamina".

Mix from the Carlton - Alexandra and Joel

To illustrate their amazing taste in music I posted the CD jacket of the mix they gave everyone. I was too lazy to type all the songs.  There are some newly found gems on there, particularly Donald Byrd's Spaces and Places and Gal Costa's Barato Total.

Some of the music for this weekend

Every once in a while we'll be hired be someone who is very passionate about music which is so excellent. Especially to be able to share with others music you think they'll love and vice versa, really the essence of being a dj.  This weekend we are excited to be playing a range of music where some of it is our favorite stuff.  I attached a list of some of the songs selected as well as the albums we'll be spinning.  It's a one way street to Tito Puente blvd.

Willie Bobo - Do That Thing

Bobodothatthing This is a great classic latin soul album from Willie Bobo. He recorded it several years before he moved over to the Verve Record label. It is mostly instrumental and does not have many covers like his later albums.

Willie Bobo is most famous for Spanish Grease which was transformed by Santana but there are gems on this album as well.

The standout tracks are 1) Bobo! Do that Thing which I think is arguably one of the best latin soul songs of all time, 3)He's that way which is solid uptempo latin jazz and 9) Rigor Mortis. You can listen to sample tracks here!
