A nice downtempo, chill track which can be found on a great compilation called Intelligent Music Favorites Volume 5, other standout tracks are Telepopmusik - Breathe, Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek, and Sebastian Tellier - La Ritournelle.
This definitely goes on the winter 2010 private listening soundtrack. If you like Portishead, Morcheeba, Velocity Girl, Delerium, Brian Eno, etc this song would fit onto that mix.
Back after a mini vacation from the dj schedule. Have been listening to a lot of arabic music, OM lounge, Hotel Costes, Cafe Del Mar and various other compilations lately. Will post an Arabic cocktail playlist a little later this week, found some amazing gems. Although much of the earlier Thievery Corporation I don't listen to much anymore mostly because I overplayed it to myself, found the original of their remaster of Lebanese Blond by an artist called Lucky Cheat. The Thievery version is close to this, they laid over some effects and reverb but essentially very similar.
Been listening to some of the shows on Brooklyn Radio.net, found some cool, different types of music on there. While I'm not the hugest fan of dub I do like Horace Andy and the reggae infused Thievery Corporation tracks. Our Father, Our King by Subatomic Soundsystem fits into this style. Check it out.
Love this compilation, it's listed as disco from Belgium but covers a range of genres from house to funk to italo, It's the perfect album to listen to while working or riding the train. Every song is good, my top two favorites are Stratus - Footprints and Home Run - Killer Storm.
Thievery Corporation has a new album out called Radio Retaliation and of course being a fan for so long I will give this one a special review. It's funny radio seems so dead to me that it's almost a redundant title, but the album is solid all the way through. It is on the safe side, I would like to see them depart more from the same singers they used on Richest Man and similar beats, and add some live instruments (electric guitar, drums) to spice things up, similar to the way the Beastie Boys did with Ill Communication and Check Yo' Head. The standout tracks for me are Sound the Alarm, Mandala, Radio Retaliation, The Forgotten People and the best of the mellower tracks (8-10, 15) is Sweet Tides.
The more I listen to this album the better it gets. It's hard to find loungy electronica with a nice beat that is not either too sleepy or too uptempo with great vocoals as well. If you like any of Thievery Corporation's back catalogue or Federico Aubele's Panamericana you will definitely like this. The track that stands out the most for me now is Azul. Click below to listen to a sample. Also, we were at Gustavino's last night for a private party, will post photos in a few days.
Eighteenth Street Lounge, home to many favorites including Thunderball, Thievery Corporation and Federico Aubele, has a new release out by Natalia Clavier called Nectar. She's the singer on Federico Aubele's second album and has ventured off on her own. She reminds me a little of Esthero and the entire album is very good, I had a tough time selecting my favorite tracks for the blog, but if I had to pick two it would be track #1 El Arbol and track #5 Non Volvera.
